Just got the Extreme Drumming DVD by Marco Minnemann. This guy has really taken his drumming to an amazing level. The camera production is top notch and so is the sound. I watched the video a couple of times so far(it's pretty long...). One thing I found is that to my ears he starts to sound a bit mechanical. That seems to be OK by him because he talks about trying to sound as precise and exact as a machine. That's cool because that's his thing. Expecting everyone to sound as fluid as Gadd or Vinnie is not the ultimate goal, but, to find what you can do that is true to yourself is much harder. So in that sense he is doing what is most natural to him and what excites his mind. So many of us try so hard to emulate our hero's without really exploring what it is that makes us sound original. Anyway..., I would recommend this video to any fan of fusion drumming just because it is so damn amazing to watch this guy pull these tunes off! I also hear that he is doing a clinic next month at West LA Music.
